Though not as effective as behind the net play, redirects in NHL 16 are OP. No matter what skill the opposing goalie has, luck is what stops a redirect. If you have a chance, try to tip the puck in and hope you get lucky.

For a 95% chance at the puck being deflected, as the shooter use a slap pass, wind up for a slapshot and press the pass in the direction of your teammate who's close to the net. Extremely high chance of being tipped, not sure if glitch or not but it's legal.
